SAADET TÜRKÖZ & THOMAS ROHRER
Sao Paulo / Zurich
Saadet Türköz vocals
Thomas Rohrer violin, rabeca
Saadet Türköz, the daughter of Kazakh parents from East Turkistan, grew up in Istanbul and has been living in Zurich for years. Her music has been shaped by her background but she connects it with contemporary influences. Saadet expresses her thoughts freely in her songs; she touches the unseen, exalts the mundane, mourns losses, awaits spring flowers
Music doesn't have its usual meaning for her, within the unfamiliar territories and her provocation she is searching for the beauty of sounds and peace as well.
She had her first musical encounter with Thomas Rohrer, a resident of San Paulo from Switzerland, in the crypt of the Leonhardskirche in Basel in 1997. The two musicians improvise either freely or on Turkish or Kazakh songs.
The themes of the songs' lyrics and music are universal. Understanding the words isn't necessary to understand what they are about.
