FEMME INSECTE (Insect Woman)
IPPEI HOSAKA Paris
German première
What happens when waiting becomes an obsession? Ippei Hosaka explores the boundaries of androgyny in a graceful, charming and even bizarre way. Nostalgia. According to the artist, the melody of melancholy captures the child in him and accompanies his transformation into the “Femme Insecte”, or insect woman. Videos projected on stage reveal other spaces. “This is my terrible metamorphosis (…). In the moonlight, in the freezing forest, I suck up the sap. I become a woman insect.”
Born in Kochi, Japan, Ippei Hosaka came to Paris at age twenty to study fashion design. He first designed costumes for Brigitte Fontaine before becoming a dancer himself, exploring butoh and the traditional Japanese style of dance called nichibu. Ippei Hosaka danced in numerous productions with “Nuba”, Juju Alishina’s butoh ensemble.
In 2004, Ippei Hosaka founded his own group in Paris. “Yamatonatto” combines the areas of improvisation, music, video art, costume design and live performance to create unique productions.
